Puppy Separation Anxiety

Puppy Separation Anxiety

Wandsworth, Clapham, Tooting and surrounding areas including London

We need to remember that puppies need to be taught not only “sit”, “down” etc, but also how to stay alone at home with peace in their heart.

At the beginning it’s only natural for us to want to spend every second of our lives together, but at the same time we’re causing the puppy to create an attachment to us (in other words – separation anxiety, as the puppy has no chance to learn what to do when they are alone).

Nowadays everything has changed and we are counting down the days before normal reality is back. However, have you thought about what your puppy sees? They see their owners are at home all day (perhaps working at the table), they’re going for walks regularly or eating together (during lunch breaks).

We are together all the time. THIS IS A PUPPY REALITY which we humans have created due to the current situation.

However our normal lives are now changing and we’re forgetting to prepare our puppy to Our Reality. That we go to work for most of the day, that each owner comes back home at different times, that kids go to after school clubs and that most of time the puppy is alone due to their owner’s lifestyle.

Please, don’t leave your puppy to cry when you leave. This is an old fashioned style of training. Teach your puppy from the beginning that being alone is something positive. Don’t expect that your puppy knows that or force them to learn it with a negative emotional journey (crying or destroying objects).

I use free force separation anxiety training, where the puppy learns with baby steps how to cope with that fear of being alone. At the same time, my puppy training programme will support them in building their confidence and focusing as well as being self-controlling. I really love that combination as you can see how your puppy becomes braver.

Review

“We did Agnes’ 1 month intensive separation anxiety course and it was so helpful for establishing a training plan that we could carry on ourselves after the course and for helping us to understand our dog and her emotions. At the end of the month we had a much better understanding of how our dog was feeling and also how to combat her separation anxiety. Agnes was brilliant at encouraging us, even through setbacks, and we feel positive that we will be able to overcome Penelope’s anxiety. She has already made noticeable improvements on being able to be on her own in our flat and we have continued to improve even after the course was over.”
