A Beautiful Interview with Polly Vernon - a journalist who was interested into my psychic reading

Humans are often sceptical of my work... and that's okay!

"So... I took my dog to see a psychic, don't judge me. ALSO, it was rather beautiful?"

Not everyone I work with is a believer. In fact, many of my clients start off as a little sceptical, or even a little doubtful about what I do. And that’s perfectly okay, as humans, we tend to feel nervous about the things we don't fully understand. But, as humans, we are also curious...

My meeting with Polly Vernon - journalist and her dog, Rita

Recently, I had the privilege of meeting Rita and her wonderful owner, Polly, after she reached out to me through a personal recommendation. To my delight, Rita had started communicating with me before we even met, so I was even more excited for our session.

From the very first moment, Rita was calm and open with me — unusual for her, as she’s normally on high alert with new people in her home. Dogs know. They sense energy, they feel intentions, and they understand and feel a lot more than we humans give them credit for. That's why I do what I do:

           I open people's eyes.

At first, her owner was curious and asked questions and then Rita began to “speak.” She shared her love, her gratitude, her humour, and her sass — her exasperation at how emotional her human gets sometimes! (Dogs are always so much funnier than we give them credit for.)

Polly was always worried about whether she had done the right thing, taking her away from her cosy family home in Somerset as a puppy and bringing her to busy, noisy London.

Rita reassured her; she was happy she chose her.

Moments like this are why I do what I do. Because underneath the training, underneath the behaviour, there is always emotion. Dogs carry stories from puppyhood, from rescue, even from past lives. And when we listen, we can begin to understand their behaviours, triggers, emotions and start to understand how to build new, positive behaviours and slowly unravel their past traumas too.

Rita wanted her owner to know one thing: she is happy. Truly happy.

And sometimes, that simple message is all owners need to know.

Polly has created a beautifully written blog post on her experience with me. You can read a snippet of it below, or subscribe and read the full article!

I work with dogs owners all over the world to uncover the stories, emotions, and needs behind their dog’s behaviour.

"What the Dog Feels: The Link Between Emotions and Canine Behaviour...and How to Get to a Happy Dog"

I recently had the pleasure of joining Alison McWhinnie on her podcast What the Dog Feels. Together, we explored one of my passions — the connection between emotions and behaviour in dogs, and how this understanding can completely change the way we approach our dogs’ struggles and behaviours.

           Why emotions matter

You can’t train your dog out of feeling certain emotions — and that’s where so many dog owners go wrong.

Behind every bark, lunge, snap or anxious moment, there’s often an emotional trigger behind it. When we take the time to understand those emotions, we’re not just managing and understanding the reasoning behind our dogs' behaviour; we’re helping our dogs feel safer, calmer, and happier.

You will find this helpful if you are a dog owner managing behavioural challenges right now. We cover several different behavioural approaches from puppyhood, reactivity, separation anxiety and emotional trauma.

Here are some of the key insights we discussed:

Reactive behaviours are rooted in emotions

             — and addressing the underlying feelings is essential.

Pain plays a big role in behaviour.

If a dog is uncomfortable or in pain, no amount of training alone will make the problem go away.

            Separation anxiety

can often be traced back to early experiences and even breed tendencies.

            Building independence in puppies

is one of the best gifts we can give them, laying a foundation for confidence later in life.

            Patience is non-negotiable.

Training is never about rushing; it’s about understanding your dog’s perspective and working with them, not against them.

            Socialisation should be gradual,

not just introducing them to every dog and person they meet.

            Simple calming strategies

like licking mats or even ice cubes can make a big difference.

            Healing approaches

like the Emotion Code and Bach remedies can benefit not only our dogs but us as owners, too.

As you can see, we covered a lot in this hour-long episode, and I can't wait for you to listen. It will truly open your eyes to the emotional challenges your dog may be facing every single day and show you

the true reasons why they are behaving in certain ways.

A message I want every dog owner to hear

So often, we expect our dogs to just “behave” without considering how they feel. But the truth is, behaviour is communication. Whether it’s reactivity, anxiety, or stress, your dog isn’t giving you a hard time - they’re having a hard time.

When we meet them with patience, understanding, and the right support, we create the space for confidence to grow and undesirable behaviours to unravel and positive behaviours to take their place.

When Protection Blocks Growth!

Discover why overcaring for your puppy can unintentionally create fear and dependency. This heartfelt post explores how true care means teaching, not limiting, so both you and your dog can grow in confidence, trust, and connection. What if your dog came to heal you?

A message for Every Dog Owner

           Protection doesn’t teach.

           Caring too much doesn’t teach.

           In fact… it can disable.

I know this might sound harsh at first. But let’s look at it from the dog’s point of view. When we constantly say, “You’re small, I’ll do it for you,” we take away their greatest chance to learn. Puppies aren’t stupid. They’re learning machines. They learn by doing, by trying, by exploring.

When we do everything for them—walk here, don’t sniff that, stay on my lap, don’t move—we’re not raising a confident dog. We’re raising a confused one. A reactive one. A dog who freezes or lunges or hides because they haven’t had the chance to build confidence through their own experiences.

And here’s something that needs to be said:

Protection at home doesn’t teach the rules of the home.

A crate isn’t the definition of safety.

A pen isn’t the definition of boundaries.

We often create a life for the dog that isn’t even realistic—just because we want to care deeply. But true care comes with teaching. With guidance. With saying, “This is our space, and here’s how we live together.”

A dog’s bed should be a safe place—not a crate, not a punishment, not a locked space. Just a place where they know, “When I rest, I’m safe. I won’t be stroked. I won’t be called. I won’t be disturbed.”

           And this one hits deep:

           Dogs are sensitive to change.

So if you build a world that isn’t true to your everyday life—if your dog’s entire world is gated, isolated, and micromanaged—what happens when real life begins?

           Shock. Overwhelm. Fear.

           Ask yourself this instead:

“How does my life look now?”

“How do I really want to live with my dog?”

           And then… build that.

Because you’re not here to protect every moment.

You’re here to grow with them.

Let them fall, guide them back, trust them enough to try. Build the confidence.

           This way, they learn.

           This way, they shine.

your stress, your fear of getting it wrong, life strass, the pressure you put on yourself… and yes, the old wounds you never meant to carry into your relationship with your dog.

I see it very often over the last years.

A dog struggling with “behaviour” on the outside—But underneath it?
An owner holding emotions that were never theirs to begin with.

That’s why my work goes far beyond teaching “sit” or “stay.”
Yes, I train dogs—but I coach owners, too.

And honestly? That’s where the real magic happens.

I work closely with my clients to help them recognise the pain or beliefs they’re unknowingly placing on their dog.

            Why?

Because your dog might be mirroring your anxiety.
They might be reacting to your overwhelm.
They might be carrying your emotional backpack—without even knowing why.

They might not have THAT NEED, which you HAVE.

So why do we need to talk about you?

Because your personal growth matters. Your healing matters. Your emotions matter. YOU MATTER.

And it’s not selfish—it’s a gift you give your dog, too.

           Why I do it?

Because I love that sparkle in the owner’s eyes at the end of our training—the way their posture shifts, standing taller with confidence and understanding. That tear they shed when they realise they’ve made life better, not just for their dog, but for themselves too.

Yes, I cry on the last day—when we’ve worked hard as a team—because I feel every owner. I understand their pain.

            I’ll say it again:

Heal your wounds. Don’t put them on your dog.

Let’s Heal, side by side—both ends of the lead.

I am always here if you need me

I have to admit, today reminded me why I do what I do. And I love it!!

During our training session, my client hesitated. Not because her dog couldn’t do the exercise—but because

           she

            was

           afraid

            she’d get it wrong.
She looked at me with that quiet worry in her eyes and said, “What if I fail?”

And this is where all the workshops I’ve done, all the healing and personal development, all the learning about how the brain works... it all came to life.
Because I could gently say to her:

"Failing isn’t the end. It’s simply one way that didn’t work. So now, we try differently. And if that doesn’t work? We try again, differently. And again. That’s how we learn."

This is the real heart of dog training.
It’s not just about teaching your dog. It’s about teaching yourself that you are capable.
It’s about building your confidence, not just your dog’s.

You see, every training session is actually a mirror work.
Our dogs reflect back our weaknesses—they show us when we’re being impatient, rushing, shouting, demanding too much, or setting standards too high.

They don’t respond to pressure, because pressure doesn’t create trust.
And that’s where the magic happens: when we slow down, soften, and learn about ourselves.

So why do we need to be resilient?
Because training a dog is also learning how to be more grounded, more aware, more gentle—with them, and with ourselves.

We were given this specific dog to help us heal, to help us grow, to teach us what we didn’t know we needed to learn.

And that’s why I’m not just proud of my dog training skills—
I’m proud of the coaching I offer within every session.

It’s something I’ve built through my own healing, through personal growth, and through working with hundreds of clients.

Because every brain works differently, but we all need the same thing: compassion, understanding, and the space to grow at our own pace.

So if you’ve been worried about “getting it wrong” with your dog…

Take a breath. You’re not failing. You’re just learning.
And I’m here to help you, every step of the way.

If you’ve ever felt confused by all the dog training advice out there,

           you’re not alone.

Between online forums, TV shows, and social media tips, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed and unsure about what’s actually best for your dog.

As a dog trainer, I’ve worked with hundreds of dogs and their loving owners. And one thing I know for sure?

You want to do the right thing

. You’re not trying to cause harm. You’re just trying to understand what works.

This blog is here to help you do that. Below, I’ll break down

six pieces of equipment I recommend avoiding

, explain why they can actually cause more harm than good, and offer

           dog-friendly, force-free alternatives

Choosing the right training tools isn’t always easy, especially when the internet offers so many conflicting opinions. But the truth is:

is what is going to supercharge your training in the long run.

Dog vs Brain - What do we really train?

Discover why true dog training starts with the brain and heart, not from your dog.

"We Don't Train Dog, We train Brain!"

This is one of my absolute favourite topics to talk about with dogs owners, because once it clicks, everything changes—for the better.

So let’s talk about what training really is… and it’s probably not what you’ve been told before.

You see, when I meet new clients, I often hear things like:

            “He’s just being stubborn.”

            “She ignores me on purpose.”

“He knows what I’m asking, he just won’t do it.”

But here’s the truth—and this applies not only to dogs, but also to children, adults EVERYONE:

We’re all working with a brain. And that brain is the key to everything.

           Let me explain…

           The Brain Is the Boss

           Who is responsible for:

            Short-term memory

            Long-term memory

            Learning style

            Triggers memory

            Hormonal reactions

Just like us, dogs have emotional connections that live deep inside their subconscious.

So when your dog is “not listening” or acting “difficult,” what you’re really seeing is this behavior driven by emotion. Emotions come from how the brain interprets and stores experiences.

So when a dog eats the best treat ever, that amazing emotion goes to the brain as extreme excitement, and then the brain remembers it and will repeat the same behaviour to get the BEST treat.

The same is with negative experiences. If the dog is sniffing and suddenly gets scared by a bicycle noise, his memory will replay the same emotional experience each time he sees a bicycle, and then he starts barking and lunging. That behavior is driven by a fear emotion stored in his brain.

Of course, we have the amygdala and hippocampus roles but I make it simple to process and learn for you as a brain term.

           But Here’s the Magic Shift...

What if we stopped blaming the dog—and started supporting the brain?

This way, we build confidence. We create safety. We help the dog’s brain learn how to make decisions, how to process your cues, and how to stay calm enough to respond based on unique personality which is driven by emotions.

           Every Brain Learns Differently

Just like people, every dog processes information in their own unique way. Some brains are fast and impulsive. Others need time and repetition. Some learn best by slower movements, and many other ideas. There’s no one-size-fits-all.

So why do we need to focus on the brain, not just the dog?

            Because when we understand

           how our dog learns

, we stop demanding obedience and start

Training the Brain, Not the Dog

So next time your dog jumps, barks, bites, ignores, or shuts down, take a breath and remember:

That’s not your dog being difficult.

That’s your dog’s brain saying, “I’m trying, but I need your help.”

Why everyone is so sceptical about dog healing?

Energy healing is becoming popular in many different ways for humans. The same healing is available for dogs, but there is one key difference: the human brain blocks this amazing healing potential for dogs.

It’s funny how people believe in Wi-Fi—waves we can’t see and trust to power our entire digital world. But when we talk about energy, frequency, and vibration in healing, suddenly, it’s “mystical nonsense.”

The truth? Energy is as real as the air we breathe. We can't see it the same way we can't see Wi-Fi. It’s just something we need to tune into with our body and feel.

Think of it like a radio. The station is always there, but you won't hear the music unless you adjust to the right frequency. The same goes for our connection with dogs. They are constantly communicating—not just with barks or body language, but with energy, emotions, and frequencies, which we feel in our bodies. How often have you said, "I just feel it". Yep this is energy

Energy is everywhere—it shapes our feelings, our opinions, and even the people and places we’re drawn to. You’ve felt it before—meeting someone and instantly liking or disliking them, stepping into a room and sensing the “vibe” before a word is spoken. That’s energy in action. And dogs, being deeply intuitive, feel it even more intensely.

Every feeling and reaction of your dog—whether reactivity, fear, or anxiety—has an emotional root. Insecurity, fear, and past experiences leave imprints in the subconscious, shaping a dog’s behaviour. Healing isn’t about “fixing” your dog but understanding and releasing these stored, trapped emotions.

When I work with dogs using Emotion Code—energy healing—I don’t just look at the behaviour—I connect with the underlying emotions causing the behaviour. I listen to the dog and feel my body because the energy is guiding me where is the problem. And the results? Absolutely incredible. Dogs are more relaxed and less tense, and their behaviour is different - better.

Healing through energy is not a myth. It’s real, powerful, and transformational. I’ve seen it happen over and over again. If you’re curious how energy healing could help your dog, check out my new account

           NEVER

actually use in their real life!

Here’s the truth If it’s not part of your lifestyle, your puppy will forget it by the time they grow up.

A dog’s brain is like a muscle —if you don’t practice, it disappears.

Instead of trying to socialize your puppy to everything, focus on what truly matters in your life:

If you go to the pub on Sundays, socialize your pub there.

If you grab a coffee every weekend, bring your puppy along.

If you travel by train often, make sure your puppy gets used to it.

Love car trips? That’s where your puppy needs exposure to the car.

And here’s another HUGE mistake—if your puppy is anxious or stressed about something, the solution is NOT to keep exposing them to it over and over again.

More exposure doesn’t fix fear! Healing does. Emotion Code removes trapped emotions from the subconscious so the socialisation is quicker and calmer.

Forget the checklist—socialize your puppy for the life you actually live, and always put their well-being first.

When you bring a new puppy into your life, but carry the trauma of a past loss (dog attack, illness, or even the heartbreaking death of a beloved dog)

it can create an invisible barrier.

That unhealed pain can affect your relationship with the new puppy. Instead of building a bond of trust, you'll find yourself projecting fear and overprotectiveness, unintentionally pain which can block their ability to grow, explore, and build confidence.

It is similar to relationships with people. If we don’t heal from a past breakup, we step into new connections carrying old wounds, making it impossible to fully commit and risking repeating the same patterns.

Healing is essential. By listening to your own emotional scars, you open yourself to hear yourself and to heal the pain. Don't rush, don't replace to avoid the pain.

Your puppy doesn’t know your past, nor should they live in the shadow of it. They deserve your unconditional love and trust, and you deserve the joy of a stress-free, flourishing bond.

Heal yourself, so you and your puppy can connect together. Create that unbreakable connection from a place of love, not fear.

Why is Poo so important ?

Maybe it will be a bit "bleee" topic, but very important.
Since I can remember, my friends say" about the poo, talk to Agnes. She is the one who knows everything and can talk about it without the end". Yep, I can because "Poo always tells you the truth about what is going on in your body".

So let's start with babies. When do we know if the baby is allergic to milk or dairy? Poo is different. We can see mucus, sometimes loose or even diarrhoea. My older daughter was very allergic to breastmilk and even hypoallergic milk. Her poo was a mixture of everything there.
As soon as we got the right milk, she had a nice one, like pic 4. What else changed- she stopped crying, was more relaxed, and her body changed. There was no pain in her guts.

Let's say, you ate something outside and you spend hours sitting on the lovely private "white chair".You know straight away, there was something not fresh +you feel grumpy, weak and painful.
Now the best, exam- how many of you run to the toilet before exams? Yes, stress changes the poo too.

So now tell me, how well do you know your dog's poo and when is something going on inside him/her? Have you ever paid attention to it? Why it is important?

My Lexi has no 3/4 sometimes 2 when less drinking.
We went away for 4 days and her poo was no 6. I knew she was stressed, overstimulated (new place, new smells, new people, different home). She wasn't eating and it is the way how she goes with the stress. Even though I was there too.
However, when her tummy is not well she has no 7 + barky, aggressive + smelly breath and less sleeping. I know I need to go to the vet.
When she eats too much dry food, no 1+looks like a balloon, so I need to change to wet-cooked food.
I know her and what she is telling me.

When you know the right poo, quickly you can spot when something is not right and to do the right steps.

The body talks by poo too.

There are no words, which can describe my happiness, gratefulness as well as surprise.

All my time, effort and willingness to help owners to understand their lovely dogs came to that point where I didn't expect that award.
In one way, I felt like my clients, who constantly heard " The afford you put into training, it will be pay off. You build the bond with your dog, communication and respect for each other. It is priceless ".

The owners' and dogs' happiness was, is and will be always my priority no 1.

However, that award is an amazing gift for my business, that Lexi and Me are on the right path and we do the right thing.

I am not Stubborn

Human loves saying " My dog is stubborn".

           I say, " No, you just don't understand him/her".⠀
One of my colleagues created that post, and I am grateful for being able to share it. It expresses everything that the owner should always remember, " dogs can be overwhelmed like humans".

I love that picture. It really shows the reality of training. Especially when clients expect from trainers to fix problems in 40min like in TV seasons. ⠀⠀

           ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The training have ups and downs and even though we want to do a Smooth Plan, the reality is challenging and this is fine too. We dealing with emotions, feelings and we never know how the dog will respond to it.

Dogs, as humans, have personality and the reaction to the training is unique as they are Unique Beings.

I love this post from PPN as it says everything what sometimes dogs' owners don't realize. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Or, maybe they assume there is less learning because it is "just a dog".⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When we go to private doctor, therapist, physiotherapist and we need to pay £ XX-£XXX per hour, we just do it, we accept it. ⠀

           ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
However, when dog trainer says the price, there is "WOW that is so expensive". ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I would say, we are not expensive, we are on average with all private rates no matter if it is for human or for a dog. I would say - the value "for who it is" is different.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Never Punish Growling !!

What do you do when a dog growls? Tell off, sshhhh, no, how dare you ! Do you say one of them?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Now think about yourself. What do you do when you are angry, have enough of what is happening around you? What do you say to let others know about your emotions, how you feel, what others should do not to upset you even more?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Mostly, dogs are punished when they growl. Later, they are punished because they bite! They get the label of " aggressive dog" who needs to be removed from home due to small kids, or other reasons.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

However, when you think about it from the communication side they growl to let you know " I can't handle it. You push me too far. Please, leave me alone or I will have to bite you so you understand that I DON'T WANT TO BE STROKE ANY MORE. I WANT TO SLEEP. I have enough of being pulled by my ears or tail. SIMPLY BACK OFF AND LEAVE ME ALONE.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

What would you say to others when you feel angry? Pretty the same words. So why punish a dog who communicates with you to let you know that. If you were punished by saying " I had a bad day, I need a peace" and you have been told off then your next step would be "shouting" to be heard, because "saying" was punished last time.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Please, don't ignore growling but listen to your dog what he/she is trying to say. Help him/her to avoid that extremely bad emotion to be calm, happy and heard. Respect his/her needs and what he/she likes/ dislikes. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
They have a unique personality and that, they are dogs, doesn't mean they have to like/accept everything.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

As well, for dogs it takes 3 days to calm down from reaching the top of the pyramid. So if they build the stress level over a certain period without any possibilities to release that tension, they are more likely to bite. That's why, mental stimulation, walks, sniffing, licking, good sleep and full tummy are so important to keep a healthy balance. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
NEVER PUNISH GROWLING!!!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Why Dog's training is THAT important?

We should train our puppies to build the confidence.

During my specialisation ( for now it is a Top Secret) I have learnt a lot about dogs' brains and emotions.

However, that short video inspired me to share and encourage you and understand how important is Puppy Training.

Not only to be obedient towards Us, but mainly to teach them that everything around them is safe to build that confidence. Showing them every piece of the world is like one brick to be safe.

It shows that Our brain and emotions and reactions to stimulus are similar to our dogs. The difference is that we say using words, Dog shows by body language.

Build the Bond and Confidence with your Dog from earlier days :)

Rushing vs Patience: the importance of smaller steps

Training is not only dog training but owner training too. Most owners want to have results in a week, or a month maximum. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Unfortunately, it doesn’t always works that way. The brain needs repetitions and baby steps to make it strong and fundamental before we add the next step. If we rush, we can quickly go backwards as the brain hasn’t got enough time to change it into a habit and/or feel confident of understanding it. It is like building a house. ⠀

That picture briefly says what I teach all my clients, take it slowly and steadily to the next level. Rushing makes it longer. As well, the owners learn to be patient and be more understanding to their dogs. We need to always add distraction/duration/distance one by one, so the dog has time to adapt the challenge. We can’t expect from dogs that they will stay in the park with all 3 “Ds” because they are a Master at home. We train at home, then the garden, after that in front of our home, a quiet park, a busier road, etc… and yes, it is a long process but if you listen to your dog and reward them with an awesome treat, the training can speed up.

However, if we reach the point that our dog is super trained, we need to keep going. The brain is like a muscle, if it’s not trained it becomes forgetful, as lazy as our human brain. How many of you were the best at school and years later you forgot everything because you didn’t practice?

Dog training is the same, training is all their life as they grow and become smarter. Make the training part of your life, don’t expect the dog KNOWS.
